Okay so I was scrolling through my social media feed yesterday, and I saw this thing about the Moray & Banffshire Heroes 2026 awards, and they're looking for a brave child of the year (I think that's what it's called... or something like that). Anyway, it got me thinking - what makes a kid a hero, right? I mean, I know some kids who are, like, way braver than I am, and I'm 34 (crap, I'm old).
So, I started thinking about all the kids I know, and there's this one kid, let's call her Emma (not her real name, because I don't want to, like, embarrass her or anything), and she's been through some tough stuff. I won't go into details, but let's just say she's had to deal with some pretty heavy things for someone so young. And you know what? She's still smiling, still laughing, still being a kid, despite all the craziness.
That's what I think makes a hero - not just the big, flashy stuff, but the everyday, behind-the-scenes bravery that most people don't even notice. Like, have you ever seen a kid stand up for themselves or someone else, even when it's hard? That's hero material, if you ask me.
How to Vote for Your Hero
Anyway, if you know a kid who's a hero, you should totally nominate them for this award. I think you can vote online or something (I'd check the website, but my internet is being slow, and I don't feel like waiting... patience is not my thing). Just make sure you do it by midnight on Sunday, April 5, or you'll miss your chance.
What's the Point of All This?
I guess what I'm trying to say is that we should be recognizing and celebrating the everyday heroes in our lives - not just the kids, but everyone. We all know someone who's going through a tough time, or who's doing something amazing, and we should be, like, acknowledging that and appreciating it.
So, go ahead and vote for your hero, and let's give some recognition to the people (and kids) who deserve it. And if you don't know anyone to vote for, just take a minute to think about the people in your life who make a difference - it's a nice way to, like, reflect on the good stuff, you know?
